Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right section but...
I’m desperate to see the A4 60009 Union of South Africa before she gets locked away. I was worn and raised in South Africa so have a soft spot for that particular A4.

Anyway, on 16 Feb she will be running through Reading onto Didcot finally ending in Worchester. I was wondering where a good spotting vantage point is around Reading. I have the biggest hospital pass from the missus to take her on her boirthday to see 60009 running. I did contemplate going on the railtour but having a 2y/o on a train for the whole day will not work out!

Your help and advice is appreciated
Regards
Jakes

You might want to look at www.trainspots.co.uk and see what you fancy.

I particularly like the stations between Reading and Didcot such as Pangbourne or Chorley which are great little stations and you get to see things rattling through (i.e. in all their glory).

How busy these will be with enthusiasts on a 'steam day' is anyone's guess but at least it is not the Flying Scotsman ;)

I probably don't need to say it but 2 year olds haven't always learnt to appreciate the beauty of a noisy, smoke-bellowing monster travelling at speed a few metres away ... I know mine hadn't.

Thanks for the suggestions I’ll have a look at them, its due to rattle through fairly early so fingers crossed only the die-hards will make it ;)

Luckily my Son LOVES steam trains we have been to a few herritage lines and he jusat want to get upclose... suits me fine.... his mom not so much hahaha!
