Storm Malik is already underway here. Not too strong at the moment, but there's a yellow warning in place for the early hours, increasing to amber later on. It looks as if I'll be right on the edge of it.

It had better not screw up my Saturday.

Why can't they have these storms on weekdays that are already ruined by work.

I was going to cut the grass today but unfortunately it rained after being dry all week. Might give it a go tomorrow though as it’s definitely been growing.

I managed a fairly late cut so my lawns are not really needing a cut yet. The house is south facing plus 6' solid fencing so the main back lawn struggles. The first cut will reveal how well the moss has developed. If I go too hard I will just have an earth patch

Once numerous years ago I did cut lawns at Christmas as too damp for a late autumn cut.

Spring bulbs are a few inches up so ought to have daffodils by St David's Day. I recall the first at the front were out in good time last year too. The weeds are showing too though

Last Saturday just 3degC so while the car needed washing it got left. Today 12degC so done. The temperate rose overnight too.

One thing I have noticed about winter weather these days is that fog seems to have almost completely disappeared, at least in London. Up until 10 years ago, a few foggy days occurred in pretty much every winter. Now fog seems to be virtually non existent. This winter, despite the weather being very settled there has only been one foggy morning, but even then the fog was not very thick and had gone by 10am.

I wonder if improved air quality now means it is lot harder to for fog to form.

I was thinking the same. One morning this year low visibility but now rare and not that thick compared to years ago.

Air quality is certainly better with three factors being far fewer solid fuel fires, less polluting vehicles and the lack of industry. Directly these have little effect in open countryside but could still be the air quality as less pollution to distribute.

Not sure I'd go as far as spring, but certainly very mid-late February like. Not warm, but the increasing brightness even on a rather cloudy day is noticeable, as well as the increasing day length. In December it would be practically dark now, while today the sun is still perhaps 10-15 mins from setting.
