Hi guys looking for just ease of mind. The other day I got an unpaid fare notice which I obliged to and paid without hesitation and also gave name address complied with everything they asked. Just wondering if anything further may come from this ? Seen as it was a 1 time thing and I paid straight away and complied with it? Is it likely to go further or should that be that

Nothing more will come of it. Private prosecutions are, for all practical purposes, impossible in Scotland. The only way it could be escalated would be through the British Transport Police investigating and passing the file to the Procurator Fiscal, who would decide whether or not to prosecute. ScotRail handle most revenue protection matters in-house and only refer the most serious cases to the BTP.

Ahhhh I understand now. The guy I dealt with was a really pleasant guy but he never mentioned if anything would go further or what would happen after. Was willing to pay it on the spot just to get it over and done with however I did get a £30 admin charge which I don’t understand ? None the less I was happy to pay just to move on with life

The admin charge covers the cost of dealing with unpaid fares.

If you have paid in full that is the end of the matter.

It's not clear that ScotRail has the legal right to levy "admin charges" but having paid you aren't likely to be in a position to get it back.

These Travel Irregularity Reports (TIR) generally fall into two categories:-

1) Those issued by conductors & ticket examiners on board trains to those passengers whose cards decline and those who have no funds to purchase a ticket. They should also be used if a ticket is withdrawn for further investigation. If paid within 7 days then no further action is taken - although details are retained to see if the passenger is a repeat "offender"

2) Those issued by revenue managers at blocks to those passengers found without tickets where an opportunity to purchase was bypassed. These generally have a £30 administrative penalty applied. This penalty is purely voluntary and closes the matter. However, refusal sees the case handed to a nearby BTP officer so a report for potential prosecution can be made to the Procurator Fiscal - generally the BTP officer will convince the passenger to pay the fare & administrative penalty to avoid escalation.
