Hi all

According to RAIL, 165109 has commenced refurbishment at Reading TMD.

How long will it take to refresh a unit?

And does anyone know if they are doing anything about the seats? They are quite frankly awful to sit in for longer than about 20 minutes, and probably the worst I have travelled in along with the 142 seats. I'm not one to complain about seats but travelling in discomfort is unnacceptable! <(

Cheers

Ryan

They plan is to refurb the whole 165/166 fleet in 84 weeks.

165109 is the first unit because its out of traffic after fire damage. One of the power cars is at loughborough getting repaired.I was on shed duties on fri,sat and i shunted 109 into the main shed with 166202.

cheers

 What a stupid assumption to make.

I have actually travelled quite a bit on Turbos. Whilst for a journey like Reading - Gatwick they get a bit tiresome, otherwise they are suited fine for stopping LTV services.

Not that im aware of, so No - and i dont think theyd be pretty popular if they did...Those 2 Cars end up on the Oxford Fasts, Bedwyns, Henley On Thames,Marlow & Windsor branches...Some of the richest parts of the country! And of course, you can't upset the upper class, they might complain to the Torygraph again...

One thing that will be interesting to see with the refurbishment, is what moquette will First Class gain? leather would be too much of a risk for such a working class unit, so the only two options i can think of is either they make the first class seatcovers in the same colours as the first class in the Mk3s, or theyll be using the same moquette as Capital Connect - which if they do, will be somewhat ironic when it came from the FGW refurb concept coaches!

Wonder if they will be refreshing each seat aswell, or will they be sneaky and do a Chiltern - Original seating in the middle with new seats in the outer ends...

Well see what theyre now like in a month anyway :D

Hopefully repaint the trains- looks much better than vinyl also the blue on the HSTs is less tacky than the graded shades of blue/purple on the turbos

One would not wish to travel with the plebian class when heading back to the castle.

Just hope the refurb eliminates the smell of p155 which seems to afflict some of these units.
