As far as I know it's a cut-and-cover tunnel, not a bored one. Some people would deny it's a tunnel because they don't count cut-and-cover tunnels as tunnels.

It isn't under the station. The independent lines pass west of the station and then enter the tunnel to go under the junctions north of the station.

Likewise for Caledonian Road, Canonbury, Hackney Central, Maryland and Barking. It's interesting how it effectively runs underneath a group of existing lines as it makes it way to St Pancras.

You've also got Finsbury Park in the same area too.

Surely the St Pancras high-speed link went under the North London Line deliberately, as there's less legal/financial hassle if you don't run a new line under other people's property any more than can be avoided.

Precisely. It was an entirely deliberate decision, and not a bad one at that, as it's not far off the shortest route for getting between St Pancras and Stratford.

Both lines long closed, but Morlais ('miler') tunnel on the LNW Heads of the Valleys line was very close to Pant station of the Brecon & Merthyr.
