There's plenty of places with fewer than two thousand people with at least one platform, although Beckenham probably is one the smallest with 20+ platforms.21 heavy rail and tram platforms for 47,000 people, the ratio is 1 to 2,238.

The mainline station for Gateshead is Heworth according to the local authority. This also has two national rail platforms and two metro platforms as well.Well, if Sunderland can get a place on this list with an asterisk, and a ‘main’ station also served by the Metro, then maybe Gateshead can as well. But then again, if we allow Metro, we then allow Merseyrail, Overground and so on.. Birkenhead might be worth looking into!
Newcastle Central is closer to Gateshead town centre than Heworth is.The mainline station for Gateshead is Heworth according to the local authority. This also has two national rail platforms and two metro platforms as well.
They are but apart from Dunston, Heworth is the only station within the borough of Gateshead. Admittedly Heworth only has an hourly service on Northern (every 6 mins or so on Metro), but the station does get used quite a bit recently.Newcastle Central is closer to Gateshead town centre than Heworth is.
And so are Dunston and Manors.
If only!City of Gateshead

Tyndrum with 167 people and three platforms must surely be the winner though. There's plenty of places with fewer than two thousand people with at least one platform, although Beckenham probably is one the smallest with 20+ platforms.
I think Leicester (4 platforms for 400000 people) probably gets off proportionately worse than Bradford’s 8 for 500000. Maybe you should start a thread on Bradford crossrail - it doesn’t get talked about nearly enoughBradford should be on this list.
Two dead-end stations with inadequate facilities for a top ten UK city.
Southampton has five platforms. There is a bay on the south side facing west. Dont know if it is electrified though. If I understand this correctly, Southampton is towards the top of this league, with 4 platforms and a population of just over 250,000.
Has anyone ever proposed a Leicester to Bradford service? They're both a bit underserved.I think Leicester (4 platforms for 400000 people) probably gets off proportionately worse than Bradford’s 8 for 500000. With full Indian restaurant service in first class?....we can but dream!Has anyone ever proposed a Leicester to Bradford service? They're both a bit underserved.

Hear me out - how about Bradford (reopened exchange) to Marylebone via Leicester. Could also stop at Halifax, Huddersfield, and reopened Sheffield and Nottingham Victoria stations. Could even give it a name - something like the South Yorkshireman? I like to think of myself as visionary.Has anyone ever proposed a Leicester to Bradford service? They're both a bit underserved.
