Trivia: passenger services that terminate then start another service continuing in the same direction

On the Blackpool trams Fleetwood ferry stop is on a circular loop, so trams terminate, wait a bit, then continue on in the same direction.
Not NR but I think we've just about reached the end of that list.
IIRC before the modernisation pretty much all the blackpool tram terminii operated as loops. There are still loops physically on the ground at starr gate and pleasure beach but IIRC the modern trams don't use them.

It happens at Lincoln. Looking at RTT

1834 from Crewe (1N68) forms the 1919 to Peterborough (2K27). (Platform 3B)
This returns from peterborough at 2157 (2K32) and forms the 2238 to newark (2T82) (platform 4)
Also:
1909 from Peterborough (2k26) forms the 1934 to Doncaster (2K60)(platform 5A)
2008 arrival from peterborough (2k28) froms the 2114 to Nottingham (2D44) (platform 5)
2055 arrival from matlock (2N73) forms the 2146 to peterborough (2K29)(platform 4)

None of these involve shunts from one platform to another. I'm guessing some of these are done to allow rotation of stock, so that units working on the Joint Line get to visit Etches Park depot from time to time

In the past there have been curious through workings like Newark - Lincoln- Peterborough, which no-one would use end to end, but they have generally been advertised as through services for the benefit of journeys like Hykeham to Metheringham

Indeed, I've never witnessed a tram terminating at Pleasure Beach, but at Starr Gate the tram does just stay in place as the driver walks to the other cab.

I'm pretty sure there is or was an early EMR service onto or off of the Robin Hood line (Nottingham-Mansfield-Worksop) which follows on from or becomes a completely different service at Nottingham. But I can't remember the details or find it; it may have disappeared after the last timetable change. It's also possible this might involve a reversal at Nottingham so it wouldn't count anyhow.

Edit: I think I was thinking of the Northern Trains 1Y97 0613 Retford to Nottingham (via Sheffield), an unusual (one per day) Northern service stitched together from two routes but it's actually one service, not split at Sheffield, so it doesn't count.

I posted about this on another topic recently too!

2C67 1758 - 1803 Aylesbury Vale Parkway-Aylesbury forms 2C68 1818 Aylesbury-Marylebone
2C76 1953 - 1958 Aylesbury Vale Parkway-Aylesbury forms 2C77 2018 Aylesbury-Marylebone

Presumably to avoid scheduling a service with a 15-20 min dwell at Aylesbury

Services at Motherwell that come from the Bellshill direction (and vv) terminate and then form services via Hamilton but with a new headcode.

But not all the time these days. The services from Hamilton which terminate at Motherwell at XX:04 go back towards Hamilton on the XX:17 on P4, whereas the services from Whifflet (arriving at XX;10) go back towards Whifflet on the XX:26.

At least one timetable they would terminate and then carry on without reversing at Motherwell (so the service from Hamilton would form the via Whifflet) like they do on Sundays.

The 18:01 Inverness to Aberdeen (1A28) terminates in one of the through platforms at 20:29 then the same unit becomes the 20:37 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street (1T68). So it just pauses in Aberdeen for 8 minutes before continuing in the same direction with a new crew and headcode.

Echoing the old plan for direct Edinburgh to Liverpool TPE services, there remains one effective through service (which is bookable as it is just skirting Newcastle's MCT) in the southbound direction.

9N12 1208 EDB - NCL 1352, goes on to form
9M14 1401 NCL - LIV 1659, with the same unit. (Mondays to Saturdays, but the timings are a smidgen different on the Sat.)

Again not the UK, but the 1638 from Tende to Breil-sur-Roya does this. It terminates, waits around twenty minutes (during which another train, presumably arriving from Nice, gets attached to the front), and then continues as the 1749 to Nice. Highly recommended as a day trip from Nice if anyone is ever in the area. 20260422_173536.jpg20260422_173451.jpg

Several years ago I took an evening train from Crewe which was just advertised as going to Chester. There were lots of people waiting on the platform at Chester as the same unit was then used for a train along the North Wales coast.

I've had a quick check and this doesn't seem to happen any more.

The Starr Gate loop goes through the sand pumps and washer. So the modern trams do use it, but only at the end of service

1N28 arrives 11D at Leeds at 19:40 from the Garforth direction then sits for 25 minutes before forming 20:05 1Y33 to Nottingham

These two services, and I would love to know why:

1S08 would normally go on to Ramsgate; this is closed today. Next Sunday shows the usual arrangements.

I think this fits your criteria - there is a 1807 arrival at Barrow-in-Furness from MIA that then forms the 1825 to Millom. Unless it has changed with the new timetable. Its Sundays only

There is a 21:07 from Doncaster that terminates at Goole, but continues at 21:57 to Hull. It does have to shuttle out of the way for the 20:56 Sheffield to Bridlington to pass.
