Just to clarify - EE1 was its class (compare EM1, later class 76), not its number, which for most of its career was 13.My first through was EE1,
ES1 - Electric Shunter : Nos 1,2 - later 6480/6481, later 26500/1
EF1 - Freight: later EB1 (banking) Nos 3-12 - later 6490-99, later 26502-11
EE1 - Express: 13, latyer 6999, then 26999, then 26600
EM1 - Mixed traffic: 6701, later 26000 (and 57 further examples built in BR days)
LNER diesel shunters were classified DJ or DY, the second letter signifying the wheel arrangment using the LNER system for steam locos (J= 0-6-0, Y= 0-4-0). This was not appropriate for their electric locos as none of them had wheel arrangemnets that fitted the LNER system - They were all of double-bogie Bo-Bo (or 0-4-0 + 0-4-0) arrangment except No 13 which was a 2-Co-2 (4-6-4) - a wheel arrangment otherwise unknown on the LNER until 1929 - the Class W1 "Hush-Hush".
