I think that both sides of this discussion have made their points and at times, matters have gone a little too far. An issue such as this raises very emotive feelings, which has been only too obvious in the wordings of some postings.

The best thing now would to call a truce and a halt to this matter, in order that matters can die down and the heat be diffused from the situation.

That I can agree with. Unfortunately both "sides" are getting quite stuck in their opinions; neither of the "YOU'RE BEING RACIST" and the "tarring them all with the same brush" opinions are altogether flexible.

That's the problem though: it's an emotive discussion with hardly any realistic proposals from either side.

As long as the subject continues to be a massive bone of contention, one could hardly expect either side to call a truce, can they?

I agree with you. This is why I called for a truce as a mediator, to let both sides cool down, as this debate would have run on for ever, with a possibility of really bad feelings for one forum member for another. This was beginning to surface in some postings.

I did have to make some room in my narrow mind for the message, so some of my other politically correct ideas have been ejected. :roll:

Now, I'm happy to have a forthright debate, just not so happy to be called narrow-minded for not sharing the same viewpoint as someone else. Everyone agreeing on something would, to my (broad) mind, be a classic example of narrow-mindedness.

One thing I have little time for though is indecisiveness. For example; those that engage in debate, make their point, say that's their final comment on the matter, but come back later with further comment.

I wouldn't bother argueing mate. Some people are so politically correct that they only see the world through rose tinted spectacles and most of them spend all their days on here, mentioning no names. Explains it all does that!

As for those whose different viewpoint to yours is somehow related to the time they spend on the forum. What tosh. And if it were a relevant factor then I feel I should point out the statistics. Take a look at your forum join date and post count, a 'post per day' count that is the 2nd highest of all the contributors to this thread......
