Trainee PCV

Good afternoon all,

I first tried to gain my PCV back in 2019, at the time I was not as "switched on" as I currently am (I had personal issues distracting me from my learning etc)

I remember passing the MOD4 and the theory and hazard perception tests but not the main test. I know I have to resit them all again, which is fine, passed them once, pass them again right?

This is just a post to see what advice is out there for someone who does have some knowhow of how to drive a bus (ok its rusty at best, but the knowledge is still there just like riding a bike)

Is there any further advice anyone can give me?

Also, IF on the off chance that anyone works for Stagecoach (Specifically in the midlands) who could tell me if the job is weekly paid, or monthly paid, when I was last doing this, it was weekly pay - I assume it is still weekly pay?

I don't work for Stagecoach but I believe in Hull.they are paid weekly, I presume it will be the same at all the subsidiaries

My advise is to listen to the driving instructor.

Be open and honest with them, and ask when you don't understand. This also helps so they can plan their lessons around your specific needs. Put in the revision hours prior to starting

As for wages in the midlands they are all weekly paid Northampton two weeks in arrears and Warwickshire depots 1 week. These are questions which are good to ask at interview as well as see the rotas as bus work isn't 9 til 5.

I'm also starting with Stagecoach in the next few weeks (not midlands, Cambridgeshire) and have been told it’s weekly pay and they pay 1 week in arrears. The theory tests are on the second day of employment. It may be different in your area.

As someone up thread said, see the rotas.

It was not uncommon for people to start and leave within a couple of months once they realised to lengths of driving hours and spread over; make sure you know what you are getting into.

It's not like the adverts.
