I am running out of Chapeaux !!!!!

Along the route today was an annotated shot of La Rotonde Ferroviaire in Chambéry. I had no idea of its continued existence.

I spent a bleary eyed and uncomfortable hour at Chambery station early one morning, on board the ski train from Calais. Unfortunately my coach was at the front of the formation - had it been at the rear I’d have seen that!

Pogacar now more than five minutes in front. Going to take something special to beat him now especially with another time trial to come.

Only twice yes. And one of them was the easy way. Proper cyclists do all three routes up in a day.

I fancy riding up at 9 kmh but not down at 90 kmh.

The race is by no means decided yet, often enough the leader has a bad day and loses a lot of time.

Jacques Anquetil won for France several times, when challenged about nutrition he said: 'pensez-vous, nous bouvons eau minerale?/do you think we drink mineral water?'

Raymond Poulidor usually finished second, but he was more popular than Anquetil.

Cav made it through today's mountain stage inside the time limit.

A couple of good shots of the 'Ligne de Cerdagne' [aka Le Train Jaune] along the route. 1 metre gauge, third rail electric @ 850 volts, highly scenic. Accessed from the standard gauge line at Villefranche-Vernet-les-Bains (from Perpignan).

Knew he’d win the stage when they went through Luz St Saveur. He looked so comfortable. Luz Ardiden is one of the easier ‘big’ climbs, but you could tell he had loads left in the tank.

Pogacar could not (or did not need to?) win the Race of Truth, individual time-trial today. I think there should be a lot more TTs in the tour.

Oh Cav, got hemmed in at the finish to come in third. Sadly not victory no. 35 but a great tour nonetheless.

He was unlucky. Lost his leadout train, realised Van Aert was the threat and got on his wheel, but as you say got boxed in. He might just have got there with a clear run. Still a remarkable tour for him given his age, poor form, and having to rely on someone else’s injury to get in the team.
