Tips for Train Holiday to Italy

Hi, does anybody have any suggestions on rail holidays to Italy? im planning on sending my parents on a trip June/July next year, spending around 2500-3500 pounds. Id rather try and find a package deal ideally with a tour guide or at least with someone to escort them from stations as i can see them getting lost. any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. thanks Richard

Weekend newspaper glossy magazines and travel supplements usually have an advert or two for escorted rail holidays and these seem to hit your price bracket (though somewhat exceed mine!).

Northern Ital is very well suited to holidays by rail. Turin, Milan, Verona and of course Venice are all easily accessible from one another, then there's Florence, Pisa, Bologna, and Rome itself.

I've always found it pretty easy to get lost in Italy, though the stations and trains are pretty easy to use. It's the streets and lack of road maps that I can't quite fathom out!

Agree about being difficult to navigate some areas. Out of all the places I've ever been to I think Lucca in Tuscany has been the most difficult to navigate around.

You can book travel and tours independently to get a customised package opposed to booking one complete package which may include things they don't want to see and excludes things they do want to see.

I booked one tour in Rome through http://www.walksofitaly.com/ recently. Unlike some other operators they don't seem to have problems operating tours every day that they are advertised.
