Hi, I'm organising a holiday to Scotland for two people, leaving London on Thurs 2 April. We want to travel to Fort William on the Caledonian Sleeper (one way) in a sleeper berth - does anyone have any tips for getting the best deal on tickets? I know that there are a very limited number of bargain berths available 3 months in advance (so soon) but these look extremely limited if you want to travel all the way to Fort William, and we don't have flexibility on the departure date. If there are no bargain berths, it looks pretty expensive if you search for tickets on Scot Rail - I can't seem to find an advance single so the cheapest sleeper looks like £153 each. Any other ideas? Many thanks.

A standard single is £149 including travel & berth.
Unless you have a Railcard I don't think you can get berths at a cheap price.

one other way would be to buy an advance single then pay a sleeper supplement on top of your fare. Probably about £32 then another £30 on top

The Bargain Berths are updated on Friday mornings, so I'd recommend checking it this Friday and the one after for the date you suggest.
If you can't get a bargain berth then try the sleeper advance single which starts at £60.

If that fails, your next option is to try for a bargin birth on the Lowland Sleeper (to Edinburgh) then an early morning train from Edinburgh to Fort William, which you could do with an advance ticket.

Yes, definitely Glasgow. You'll arrive at about 0720, and the connecting train departs at about 0820 to get you to Fort William for about 1200 (2 hours later than the Highland Sleeper would have got you there - but on the plus side you leave London 2 hours later).
I'm not sure you can get an Advance seated ticket, and then book a berth. I don't think it's officially allowed. If it was, then it certainly opens up anomalies. I have not got the sleeper much since the 37s ended in 2006, but I think I recall reading a rule saying that the only Scotrail only tickets that could be used in a berth were the berth inclusive ones, and that you had to have a flexible ticket to upgrade. However, if on the day, there are berths remaining, the berth attendant is unlikely to say no to the money, but that's not guaranteed.
