I was anticipating having two layers of beds.
My preference for a "bargain bed" arrangement would be something like this (with apologies for the terrible drawing!):
View attachment 106442(very definitely not to scale!!!)
Two end-loading pods on top of each other, stuffed in a tight as possible. Imagine a long row of bunk beds, with a sheet of plywood separating each bed from those adjacent. In a 20m vehicle, I estimate you could fit 34-36 of these beds. If an aisle width of ~80cm is unacceptable, then the pods could be angled slightly (though not as much as shown in the drawing), though this would reduce the capacity and potentially start to cause "snapped neck" issues (though hopefully not with a small angle, eg: 10 degrees).
No doubt there's a multitude of reasons why this wouldn't work!![]()
Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. You could’t fit a 2m bed and a 0.8m aisle into the width of a coach; that would leave you with 20mm for the width of the body shell material, interior panelling, ducting, etc.
Fair point. Though at the right price...
For such a layout to require ‘only’ as much subsidy as the existing beds, they would have to have the same occupancy rate as the current beds, and charged at c66%% of the ‘classic’ berth rate. To be frank I can’t see there being enough of a market for them.
