Maybe it is just me but I don't think appeals for money towards buying locos for preservation will bring the coffers in like they used to, for example if you decided you wanted to preserve a 37, set a group up and asked for money to help who would give to it? There are so many in preservation and there are guys who have the cash in their pocket to buy one (and in some cases 4,5, 6 engines) and restore them. If its an existing engine group owned and has had a major failure then you may get people giving but with the currnet amount of locos in preservation I can not see people dipping into their pockets and producing money for every group that turn up on the web thinking about buying an engine.

Ermm, from the best of my knowledge class 13s were two class 08s semi-permanently coupled together used in a "master-slave" formation. They were used exclusively at Tinsley yard for hump-shunting.

So, you'd need to get two 08s, remove the cab from one of them, somehow find a way of remotely controlling the "slave" unit from the "master unit", and then couple them together.

Sounds like an interesting concept. It would make an unusual loco for use on preserved railways, although I'm not sure if most bashers would want to ride behind one!

Hello all a small preservation society has been set up to preserve a unusual loco or a celebrity loco with a unique livery or nameplate.

Sorry to return the opening post, but why not buy a good loco and put your own nameplate and unusual livery on it?
