There are instances of regulatory bodies taking action though for byelaw convictions. As an example

Junior doctor caught using disabled sister's travel pass

Dr Sharifa Scerif, 27, from Islington, London, dodged £170-worth of transport fares by using her disabled sister's Freedom Pass. She was caught at King's Cross station but denies dishonest misconduct.

Suspended for 8 Months but this was lifted on review

From where we sit it doesn't help that there are multiple professions, each with their own regulator, and not only is there not necessarily consistency between regulators, but there doesn't necessarily seem to be consistency within a regulator. I'm sure that last point is unfair, but as we effectively rely on press reports rather than detailed rulings from the regulators, we may miss the subtle differences that lead to different outcomes.

So that means that we can never tell people not to worry about being convicted for fare dodging, but neither can we say for certain that they're doomed. Sometimes we have other knowledge where we can give more certainty ( we have here people from the NHS, others who have personal experience of vetting, academics etc who know what universities really worry about) but all we can do is advise caution and full disclosure to avoid making a bad job worse.

And also thanks to the OP for coming back to explain the court process as experienced when you are up against TfL.

Exactly. Seems like a lot of people here have got their knickers in a twist and just want to see the doom and gloom rather than the effort I put in the help others lol.

It is the reality. Your reaction to the situation says more about you than the act of fare evading.
