When traveling around London with a disabled railcard loaded onto your oystercard, a person accompanying you can buy a child Zones 1-6 Off-Peak Day Travelcard (as stated here under the railcard tab).

It is somewhat embarrassing as an adult to go through the barriers when they flash up "child" every time making you look like a fare evader.

Further it also doesn’t help when such ticket doesn’t open the barrier and the TFL barrier staff that you approach isn't aware that such a companion can buy a child travelcard causing more embarrassment and difficulty trying to persuade them that you are not fare evading.

So why can't they create a paper travel card with a 1/3 discount for this purpose?

DSB railcard discounted paper Travelcards are available for £5. The one you're entitled to costs £2. If the discount isn't available in Fastis (it certainly isn't in the software I have to use), it's probably because system limitations only allow one fare per ticket. It's probably best to take it up with TfL.
