Hi there

I have not been purchasing the full ticket from Bookham to Vauxhall and back, and today SWR revenue protection officer proceeded to issue me a Reporr for prosecution.

I cannot remember if he took an image of my Trainline tickets but assume and think he did, I was incredibly distressed and have horrific anxiety of the outcome! Naturally it’s my fault I’ve messed up and I’m so so sorry and won’t do this again but financially I’ve been struggling and it’s just so silly.

What outcomes have people had? Can they track your Trainline history?

The issue reason is: no ticket

He also took my Oyster card history which is fine.

Please help advise what outcomes you’ve had?

Thanks

Yes, they can and almost certainly will investigate your Trainline account, and will be very interested in any other instances of ticket purchases consistent with “short faring”.

The usual effect is that if they offer you a settlement instead of prosecution, you will have to pay for all the instances you dodged paying the correct fare.

Generally, as you will see from many posts on here, you will end up being offered an out-of-court settlement; however, you could be prosecuted through the courts and given a fine.

The process will start by them sending you a letter which will look rather threatening, but provided you engage with them you will end up paying an admin fee (£100-150) plus the full fare for your journey (possibly for all the journeys they have reason to think you cheated).

For now, there is nothing you can do apart from not panicking and starting to save money - but pay your fare anyway!

How long have you been doing this for?

I’m not sure.

But for a while
You can check your online account to get an idea of how many times.

Bear in mind that the current single fare from Bookham to Vauxhall is 11.50, so for every day you have done this SWR is likely to want 23.00 as part of any settlement. And you’ll only have 14 (maybe 21 at a push) days to pay, so it’s in your interest to work out what the likely cost is going to be. (Add a couple of hundred too for admin costs.)

If you don’t pay up within their deadline they will prosecute, so you need to think carefully how you can have that money to hand quickly to pay them.
