SWR Gateline Assistant Role

Hi there,

Just a little bit of context before I get started: i'm pretty much fresh out of University and last month I applied for a gateline assistant role in Basingstoke, I got through all the stages and had the in person interview and assessment.

Unfortunately I was not successful but upon asking for feedback I was called back instantly and told that my case is "peculiar" because I did really well in the interview / assessment and the hiring manager spoke very highly of me but they only had one vacancy and the successful applicant just happened to be picked over myself.

The lady from recruitment who called me informed me that due to my performance further applications for other gateline roles on the network would be fast-tracked so I can skip the interviews / assessments and go straight to an informal chat with the hiring manager. She also gave me her work number so I can get directly in touch with questions.

Roughly a week ago, I applied for another gateline role but in Salisbury this time and I am now just waiting to hear back.

I'm just wondering how common this 'fast-track' status is and to what extent does it elevate my application above other applicants for this position?

I am really hoping to get a job on the Railway as soon as I can so any extra pieces of advice for the informal chat would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

My experience of SWR recruitment team is that they're very good. I'm sure what they tell you is true but to what extent it helps you to jump the queue to a job, only they know.

Remember the informal chat is still an interview so just be as professional as possible and have some points prepared to tell them why they should employ you over someone else. Same as any interview, they want to see why you're the best person at that time for that position.
