Swansea platform alterations

Curious, the majority of times that I have taken a train connecting at Swansea even when all trains are on time there is a platform alteration. Does anybody know why it is so common of an occurance in Swansea?

Swansea is quite a simple station. Can you not just wait on the concourse until the train is running down the platform towards you?

Perhaps the signallers are just manually applying sensible changes to a bad plan: there is timetabled use of platform 4 for starting and terminating services that cross the entire throat - instead of using platform 1 exclusively for that kind of thing.

It's a simple station but not great from trackwork perspective. Single-lead approach from the Cockett side (West Wales) funnelled into two tracks arriving in the station - it should have three at the throat enabling three independent moves - fixing the "SCL" Swansea Carriage Line for passenger use would help (I presume the dash line on the sectional appendix below says it's restricted).
