Summer Steam in The North

I was looking at the various steam trips in the North Of England for the summer period and there seem to have been some changes.

In recent years I have usually booked over the Late August Bank Holiday weekend, the RTC Waverley Train from York via the SCR to Carlisle for the Sunday and then on the Monday I have booked on the WCR Scarborough Train that goes from York to Scar, via either Harrogate or more recently via Normanton.

However this year the Scarborough service seems to be in late October, and there appears to now be a new Dalesman service from York to Carlise via Normanton/Wakefield & the SCR, this in addition to the usual Waverleys and the Fellsman too.

It's amazing that there are so many trains all following the same main core.

I guess there is the demand for it though and it is a great route.

I suppose that if there is another steam ban around York, then they can go Diesel to Hellifield and do a steam loco return trip from there?

I wonder if West Coast Railway Company are still banned from using steam on Network Rail's London & North Eastern region? Or have they finally complied with NR LNE's requirements?

I think the problems they had last year re steam has been sorted out.

Well it was less steam in general and more WCRC in particular that were an issue Having read the determination by the adjudicator again it would appear that as long as WCRC have complied with that then you're right it should be sorted.

Therefore I would suggest it'll depend on the weather as to their being a steam ban and the extend of that ban would determine where traction might be changed.

The S&C trains from York promoted by WCRC are advertised to be diesel hauled (most probably top and tail due to reversal in Leeds) as far as Hellifield and I would guess that the trains advertised by RTC will also be diesel to and from Hellifield despite what it says on their web site.

Thanks for that. I did wonder how they would do things at Leeds on the WCRC Dalesman service as that comes in from the Wakefield Direction, unlike the RTC Waverley which comes into Leeds from York via the east so no need reverse for that service.
