Not brilliant. South of Bromsgrove you are fine, just to there is a bit of a nightmare.

Is there room to extend the down goods from Cofton to Barnt Green, electrify it and upgrade to passenger standards? That would keep cross-city trains clear of the main line from Kings Norton to Barnt Green.

Only in the Down direction. Doesn't help the Up direction.

Looking at the relevant Quail track map, I see there is an up goods line from Barnt Green to near Longbridge, which perhaps could be electrified and upgraded. The real congestion is between Kings Norton and New Street, of course.

A lot of money to spend to enable an extra service. You still have the crossing movement 3 times at hour at Barnt Green.

At what point does it become worth grade separating for Barnt Green?
Maybe swap the branch to wrong line working. Redditch bound could go straight into the western branch platform whilst Birmingham goes through the eastern branch platform then along a new track on the Eastern side until there is space to climb and go over the top.

You will need to do Kings Norton too to release enough capacity
