“Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my sincere apologies for travelling with an incorrect ticket on the 8th of March while commuting from Gravesend to Abbey Wood. I fully acknowledge that this was wrong and I take full responsibility for my actions.

I am truly sorry for any inconvenience caused, and I would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to settle this matter without legal proceedings. I am more than willing to cover any reasonable administrative costs that Southeastern has incurred in dealing with this issue.”

Exactly the same as your version, without the unnecessary excuses or pity party. Completely agree with post #51. With respect, training to be a nurse does not ensure you should be dealt with differently to anyone else.

You’ve been caught once before, failed it pay it and caught again. If I was in Southeastern’s prosecution department I’d be throwing the book at you.

Your financial situation is irrelevant. If you don’t have the funds to pay for something it doesn’t entitle you to steal it. You’ve evaded every question on why you don’t receive student finance and other posters have posted several good suggestions on financial support.

Send your response, cross your fingers they offer a settlement, ensure you pay that settlement and do not ever do this again.

Travelling, not commuting. I may be old fashioned but commuting refers to travelling on a regular basis and the word comes from commuting the fares to a season ticket price. Suggesting that you were commuting encourages a closer look at your travel history.

Very minor point but I would be tempted to reword this sentence slightly softer:
I am more than willing to cover the administrative costs that I understand Southeastern has incurred in dealing with this issue.

I agree with the amends suggested and suggest it's ready to be sent off.

If sending by post use a tracked postage service (cheapest one that shows proof of delivery only costs about 30p more than stamp I think) - if only sending it by e-mail be sure to look out for some sort of auto receipt to prove it has got there. Keep proofs they have received it.
