Stratford International

I thought I'd try out the new 395s and, as I only had a short amount of time, just bought a single from St Pancras to Stratford Intl.

As I was using a single, it was retained by the barriers at Stratford Intl. Just after the barriers, there was a large sign saying "have your tickets ready for inspection" for the bus that runs to the regional station. So I had to blag my way onto that one.

Then, it turns out that the bus actually drops you straight on to platform 11 of the regional station, behind that station's barriers! So I had to ask nicely at the gateline there!

What a farce! Farepayers are made to feel like criminals, and faredodgers at Stratford regional now have the perfect excuse for getting through the barriers!

Er, it's a transfer bus for those that are intending to travel from Stratford Regional. If you weren't going to, then you shouldn't be using it surely?

The bus is the only way out of the international station. There is no publicity at St Pancras saying that you cannot simply make a trip to Stratford.

Single St Pancras to Stratford International - £5.00 (includes + highspeed)

Single St Pancras to Stratford(London) - £4.00 routed via High Speed line and bus link (doesn't mention + highspeed but all journeys routed that way)

Single St Pancras to Stratford(London) - £5.10 routed via Liverpool Street and takes more than twice as long!!

Presumably the correct fare, but I can't persuade the "Fare Finder" on The Manual to give me a price between London and Stratford International regardless of what I search for.

Single St Pancras to Stratford(London) - £4.00 routed via High Speed line and bus link (doesn't mention + highspeed but all journeys routed that way)

That's a single from Zone 1 to Stratford, so would only be valid by tube or train+tube. Certainly not valid on HS1.

Not a clue what this is, as it doesn't appear in any fares list that I can find!

No wonder the travelling public hold the fares system in such high regard

Both London Midland and National Rail sites show these fares, although National Rail does say that access to Stratford International is only available on the connecting bus from Regional, perhaps that is why you cant find a fare?

Regarding the £4.00 to Stratford Regional, both London Midland & National Rail give the fare and journey using the High Speed line. What would happen if a passenger used this information and turned up with a ticket?

How can a new service have been introduced with such a messy fares structure?

This was the press release issued by Newham Council when the shuttle bus was first announced. While it initially sounds like a feeder service to Stratford Regional, the sentence at the end about it being used by local people would suggest that it's perfectly acceptable as a means to transfer from Stratford International to the local area. I know that Newham Council neither runs or fund the bus they are a stakeholder in the area.
