Strange micro vibrations in Hackney

Dear Whomever,

Is anyone able to tell me the source of “micro vibrations” that seep up from the ground in Hackney Central. These vibrations are nearly
always accompanied by a low frequency din (like the hubbub of distant traffic). The sound is very low in volume. It feels as though
a giant tumble dryer is spinning underneath the ground around Hackney Central particularly near the junction of Graham Road and Marvin Street, E8.
I have been told that the HS1 train line runs almost parallel to Graham Road. These vibrations do not seem to have the signature of a train moving, but of some kind of motor spinning. The vibrations usually start around early evening and can go on all night. Does anyone have an idea what is causing this. Many thanks in advance.

I can sympathise with you on that one. I had that in a previous house. Worst of all my then partner couldn’t hear it and I could hear the noise through earplugs at night. I had my suspicions as to the source but after many a sleepless night, we had to move after a couple of years. I couldn’t take it anymore!

I could imagine it being something HS1 related, as you said, it runs beneath the Mildmay line.

I know what sound you mean, but I do not have a clear explanation for you. I was once told it's something to with buildings. Could be HS1 related as @pokemonsuper9 says, but I don't know.

Are they doing any engineering works or things like rail grinding down there at the moment?
