Hi,
I was looking for a friend for tickets from Manchester Piccadilly [MAN] to Newcastle [NCL] for Sunday 20th February, however I can't seem to find any Standard advance tickets at all on this day except very early and very late, neither of which is really any use.

I'm trying to find a pair of 16-25 Railcards tickets (or even a single one) but am only being offered Off-Peak singles. Is there any particular reason as to why there are no advance tickets available for this day?

Regards
Lyes

(apologies if my posts are less concise than usual, sent from my phone)

Cheap tickets can indeed sell out very quickly on any route ( I have known the lower priced £69 returns on Eurostar to vanish from some services on the same day that they are released, 120 days in advance of travel! ).

You could split via Sheffield then get CrossCountry (XC) advances from there to Newcastle (there are some available throughout the day).

it is a bit strange - there are loads of TP advance fares from Leeds to Newcastle. and quite a few from Manchester to Leeds - but none on the same train, and it's nearly an hour wait for the next TP service with an Advance.

It's probably better to split at York and get tickets for the next XC / EC service.

If your friend doesnt mind a longer journey time (about 3 hours) there are advance tickets if they go via York
2x STD ADV with railcards on TPEs 13:02 depature from Man Pic to York = £14.50
2x STD ADV on XCs 14:46 depature from York to Newcastle with railcards = £16.50

Arrives Newcastle at 15:46

TOTAL OF £31.00 for 2 tickets

Buy the Transpennine tickets from their own website - there is an additional discount for YP advance tickets. (1/2 instead of 1/3).

There are loads from Manchester - Newcastle too, just not for that day.

The direct TPE service takes around 3 hours anyway, so this is fine.

Booking via York does seem like an excellent idea, thanks for the tip.

Great, thanks! I was going to use the promotion anyway however the lack of advance tickets didn't let me (but I wouldn't have thought to use TPE for the Manchester - York part of the journey!)
