Still slightly perplexed by the mixed messages yesterday at Preston essentially saying 'do not travel' (as there would be no trains running beyond Carlisle), but it seems that many trains did still operate to/from Glasgow Central.

Many was 1 per 2hr (less one cancellation) with delays between 50min and 3hr.
That's about 25% of the normally available seats for Glasgow and none for Edinburgh.
Do not travel was pretty wise advice IMO even if the board was over pessimistic.

Surely the sensible thing to do however, as the service was both greatly reduced from normal and much slower, requiring a change at Carlisle; And that was only until the infrastructure was affected by the weather, which it eventually was!

But why run any service at all when you've already said that you wouldn't be. Has to be mixed messaging, surely? Not so sensible!

Because it was possible (until it wasn't), because people will still want/need/turn up to travel regardless of weather or Do Not Travel warnings, and lastly because Avanti have been absolutely slated for 'giving up' north of Preston in the past!

Like others have said, fair play to CrossCountry for keeping things ticking and serving Alnmouth and Berwick.

It’s a shame delay repay can’t be suspended on such days where it’s known well in advance.

Not really on-topic but be careful about what you wish for.

A exceptional circumstance clause is really a double edged sword for everyone, implement one and every train company will rush to claim everything is a exceptional circumstance, as do Ryanair, EasyJet..., to get out of paying. Though I agree it may feel unfair for companies to have to shell out for stuff not in their control.
