That will upset all those passengers who 'accidentally' forget to buy a ticket for the Thameslink leg towards Farringdon before touching in on the platform side reader.

Wasn't it only this year new validators were installed next to them?

(Not that it matters if they were needed for yesterday's CPAY expansion.)

There’s been validators by the lifts for years. Needed for smart cards.

That could increase the time It takes to change trains between platforms depending how many gates there are on each side and how many other passengers are in the same lift especially if travelling with luggage. Currently I think the minimum interchange time is set at 4 minutes.

Yes, but I assume the previous CPAY-incompatible validators were there until recently.

I heard from someone who works for an agency that they'll be having more staff to be at two new gatelines upstairs. I don't know when they're going in, but I've thought for ages that there's enough room. Perhaps the one immediately opposite the main gates can be controlled remotely but the one for platforms 3&4 needs to be manned.

Most days, in the peaks there’s several RPIs checking tickets at the lifts.

I’ll be very interested to see how they’re going to fit a gateline in, given the limited space and the risk that any delays getting through the gateline could result in a backlog of passengers into the lift.

I'm surprised the minimum interchange time wasn't increased to take into account platform 5 when that opened, considering 4 minutes is quite tight if you alight from the southern end of a long train and need to get to platform 5 to head to Watton on Stone.
