Does anyone know what the timings are for Steam on the Met 2015?

I can find the departure times on the LT Museum website, but didn't know if other timings had been published anywhere?

Nothing has been published beyond those times, or is likely to be, but I don't mind elaborating slightly...

Harrow-on-the-Hill (p4) arr 1047 / dep 1101

Chesham arr 1141 / dep 1200

Watford (via NC) (p1) arr 1230 / dep 1310

Chesham (via NC) arr 1341 / dep 1400

Watford (via NC) (p1) arr 1430 / dep 1510

Chesham (via NC) arr 1541 / dep 1600

Harrow-on-the-Hill (p6) arr 1641 / dep 1647

All trips are booked via the Main Line.

Hadn't realised the first one was going to Watford via Chesham ! Hoping to get out and see it on Sat.

It looks like the normal service to Chesham is suspended between 1100 and 1645, with passengers for Chesham needing to go to Amersham and catch a bus from there. I wonder if people will be allowed on the platform at Chesham to have a look at the train, or whether it will be closed so that ticket holders may alight.

Here's the advice from TfL's journey planner:

METROPOLITAN LINE: Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, between 1100 and 1645 each day, no service between Chalfont & Latimer and Chesham. A replacement bus service operates between Amersham and Chesham.

So I would expect Oyster to be valid given it's a replacement bus.

You need to buy separate tickets for the steam trains: http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/whats-on/events-calendar/heritage-vehicles-outings

Tickets range from £20 to £35 for adults and £10 for children for the Vintage Summer Steam event. The combined Vintage Summer Tea and Steam tickets range from £30 to £45 for adults and £20 for children.

I don't know if there are any left.

To answer the various questions in no particular order...

The Chesham service is diverted to Amersham as detailed below.

Commencing with Train 405, 10.02 ex Aldgate up to and including Train 403, 15.02 ex Aldgate , all trains booked to run to Chesham will be diverted to Amersham to detrain in platform 2, depart to siding at xxj151⁄2 or xxj451⁄2 and form xxb311⁄2 or xxb011⁄2. Cancelled Chalfont & Latimer to Chesham.
Commencing with Train 405, 11.26 ex Chesham up to and including Train 403, 16.26 ex Chesham, all trains booked to start from Chesham will instead start from Amersham (ex siding) to platform 3 depart xxb011⁄2 or xxb311⁄2 and pick up their normal path at Chalfont & Latimer at xx.05 or xx.35. Cancelled Chalfont & Latimer to Chesham.

A replacement bus service will run between Chesham and Amersham every 15 minutes throughout, with a temporary stop being located outside Chesham station.

All services via the North Curve as it makes pathing easier up from Harrow - i.e. straight up the Main.

Chesham station - I understand that people will be allowed on the platforms for photos but that will be at the discretion of station staff on the day. The train will be operating a ticket+wristband system to actually be able to get on board. To view the train at any other station a valid LU ticket or Oyster card is required.

Someone else has already posted the link and prices for tickets, but I can confirm that there are still some available for sale, and there may be some available on the day.

Finally - a word of warning. Last year there was an awful lot of incursion onto platform ramps, the track and other non-public areas. Lots of tripods and flash photography was also being used, as well as photographers straying over the yellow line. Please, please, please obey the TfL conditions of carriage; none of these are okay, and they will jeopardise future vintage events on LU. Additional BTP officers and SRT staff will be deployed on platforms this year to help manage this.

Oh - and the formation should have Met 1 and Sarah on the north end and L150 and the milk van on the south - but all subject to change until it leaves Ruislip!

If you're not on the station, the following road bridges would provide a decent view for photos as they don't have anti-chav barriers:

* Bell Lane, Chalfont and Latimer
* Nightingale Road, Rickmansworth
* Harvey Road, Croxley
* Winton Approach, Croxley

If you want to watch the steam train passing at speed then I would say that Chorleywood would be best for that. The speed through Chalfont and Rickmansworth will be slower.

As a matter of interest, why do these trains start from Harrow-on-the Hill, please?

Is this something to do with where the locos and rolling stock are kept, or is it a branch that they can close for public trains easily?

Probably several factors - previously the stock was kept at Neasden (though I believe this year was at Ruislip?).

I'd guess the key factors are platform / path capacity. Running south of HotH would probably need far more planning as the next obvious terminus would be Baker Street (which is far busier) and would have far more impact if a train failed in service.

On Saturday the train was running a bit late having reportedly had problems - I'm guessing it didn't have too severe impact on the timetabled services (beyond not running to Chesham) but south of Harrow I'm guessing it could be more of an issue?

Correct, the train was based at Ruislip this year so Harrow allows for a convenient reversal to get back north, as well as a starting station that can handle the special arrangements for ticket holders.

Train did run a little late on Saturday but nothing untoward and no service trains were delayed.

There were some delays on the Sunday, at least. One Piccadilly line train was cancelled between South Harrow and Uxbridge due to the steam train running.
