So heres a mildly unintelligent question....

Booked on the West Somerset Express on 20th July on a standard class ticket.

The only thing on the Steam Dreams website about food is the whole fine dining shebang, so are you expected to get your own food off the train?

I've never done a mainline railtour (excited!), I assume you can wander down to the restaurant car and get some breakfast?

On almost all railtours, you can purchase items from the buffet counter. There won't be a restaurant car for standard passengers; you would take the food back to your seat.

The West Somerset Express on 20th July is a Railway Touring Co trip rather than Steam Dreams.

As others have said, there will usually be a buffet with a selection of snacks/drinks (hot soft and alcoholic).
From past experience, they sometimes offer a small selection of sandwiches and maybe cakes, but not usually anything more substantial.

On some tours, they've also gone through Standard offering bacon rolls from the dining kitchen (same as you get included in First), but I wouldn't rely on it.

I'd certainly recommend bringing some food onboard and there's usually enough time at the destination to grab a meal as long as you aren't massively delayed.

Hope this helps.
