There are some out there. An example is Twickenham, which has numbers 1-5; 1 is derelict and 2 is never used.

Platform 2 at Bristol Temple Meads; don't think there's any signs pointing to it so presumably cannot be used by passenger services.

Platforms 2 (and 3) at Kings Norton are disused and not accessible, but still in existence.

Platform 1 is now the staff car park (no track), platforms 2 and 3 have been cut in half with the north end of both and the south end of 2 no longer in passenger use, the south end of 3 is the (normal) Gunnislake platform.

Go-Via took over the South Central franchise in 2000, they pulled the Southampton - Bournemouth section of their services in 2003. Techically, of course, it was still known as "South Central Trains" then.

Last time I was at Bournemouth, Connex South Central were terminating in platform 1, and I travelled there and back on Virgin services hauled by Class 47s, getting on and off at Didcot Parkway!

As already stated, the current Southern service to Southampton Central used to run to Bournemouth.

Well, would it surprise any of you if I said that I had never been to Bournemouth until three months ago? I also have little memory of NSE maps before mid-2004, only a few things such as Anglia Crosslink and a rare example of a nice green for Thames Trains...

Yes, it's used every day by terminating LO WLL services

Technically, that's Waterloo International, platform 20 was taken from the Waterloo itself so it counts

OK, I'll have Platforms XXI-XXIV at Waterloo International then...It's still a mainline rail station, so I reckon that still counts! :razz:
Indeed...Those platforms together constitute an entire inactive station, in a manner of speaking! I'll have a bonus point, methinks!

And of course, the original Waterloo had no active platform one or two or any other number...We've never made use of platforms in our historical disagreements with the French!

Indeed, and the National Rail website helpfully says that the ticket machine is located "on platform three towards Lichfield".:roll:

This example is true of quite a few stations, such as Ascot. In this instance though, I am not sure which platform is the dud!

Also, arguably, platform 2 at Yeovil Pen Mill. Similar to Ascot with a single line through two platform faces. Although the NRE 'Stations Made Easy' plan of YVP shows double track!

Ditto for Guildford platforms 6 & 7. Both face onto the same road, but trains with powered doors (I.E: All rolling stock nowadays) only open on the plat six side.

Nowadays, seven's pretty much just extra space for plat. 8...But it was really useful back when we had CIGs working down Guildford way! When I was using Guildford regularly, my train (The FGW to Blackwater) had a tendancy to have its platform altered at the last minute.

It was always quite hillarious watching everyone make a mad dash from one platform to another via the bridge or subway...Whilst I simply boarded the CIG standing at 6/7, opened the door on the other side, closed the door through which I'd first passed*, then stepped out onto the other platform!
* - The reason for my open door A, open door B, close door A, close door B approach was a simple guard to ensure that the train didn't depart on an ECS move etc. whilst I was using it as a bridge!
