Does anyone know if any other countries provide station usage statistics like here in the UK? If so do you have a link to them?

It would be really interesting to see this information for other countries.

Many thanks.

Many thanks for the link. That is interesting to read. It's a shame it is not in excel format as France seems to have much more stations than us! It takes ages to scroll through!

If you click the "Export" tab, then click on the acceptance text that appears, it will let you download the data as CSV, JSON or Excel.

Utrecht Centraal being busier than Amsterdam Centraal is a bit of a surprise, though it perhaps reflect Utrecht being THE main station as opposed to there being other options in Amsterdam.

Thanks for the further links. That is very helpful. I find it very interesting viewing this data.

As i am mainly looking for annual data (just like what is available in the UK) so i had a few questions:

• The Irish statistics are daily rather than annual. Was this information simply recorded just on one particular day a year? Or is this information recorded over the whole year and then divided in to 365 to get these statistics? So if i added the entry statistics and exit statistics for a station together and multiply them by 365 then will i get the correct annual entry and exit statistics for that station?

• Is the Swiss data Annual or Monthly or Weekly or Daily? And what do DTV and DMW mean?

• Is the French data Annual or Monthly or Weekly or Daily?

• Is the Netherlands data Annual or Monthly or Weekly or Daily?

• Is the Belgium data Annual or Monthly or Weekly or Daily?

The Spanish document looks confusing at first but actually seems very simple to understand once you start reading it. I am very surprised that Spain has publishes it with English on it but its certainly very useful.

Also if anyone is interested i have found the current Northern Ireland statistics here - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/requ...3/NIR Footfall 1718.xlsx?cookie_passthrough=1 - on this link.

Many thanks for the help.

Daily, on a regular working day. Please note that the numbers are NS passengers only. On stations with other TOCs, like Zwolle or Arnhem, the real numbers will be higher than the numbers listed, or there might not be any data at all (for stations with other TOCs as the only operator).

As far as I can make out the answers to your questions are as follows

The Irish figures are taken for a single typical weekday - given weekend patronage can be very different from a weekday then you should not multiply by 363 (no trains on Christmas Day or St Stephen's Day) to give an annual figure. A very rough indication of annual numbers can be provided by multiplying by 300

The Swiss data is an average daily figure - DTV is the average daily figure over a week, DMW is the average daily figure for a weekday

The French numbers appear to be annual

The Dutch numbers are an average working day

The Belgium numbers are an average working day, average Saturday and an average Sunday

The Northern Ireland numbers you provided a link to look very odd with huge differences between alighting and boardings for some stations.

Anyone come across German station usage numbers?

Thank you for the information.

I imagine that the problem with the Northern Ireland statistics may include the following:

• Multiple times every year (adding up to at least four months [120 days] in total) Translink have a special offer where you can buy a Single ticket and use it as a Return ticket. So this will definitely mess up the statistics a lot.

• There are no ticket barriers and only a very small amount of ticket offices (only at the largest stations) so most passengers have to buy on the train from the Guard. I imagine that often the Guard doesn't come around to sell tickets so they will travel for free or if the Guard only comes around in one direction they will just buy a Single instead of a Return. Many passengers may also lie about where they got on to get a cheaper fare.

• Every day after 18:00 you can use train tickets on buses and bus tickets on trains between destinations that are served by both buses and trains.

I imagine that all this messes up the statistics a lot.
