Station Supervisor 1 ( SS1 )

I wonder if anyone can help. My father retires shortly from one of the big mainline stations and needs me to compile a CV for him as he is fed up with commuting and is going to get a littl part time job locally. He started off 40 odd years ago as a Railwayman, then in the booking office and then in the OPS room, SS2 and then SS1. He wasnt bothered about DSM or anything like that, think he liked the OT too much.

I have spoken to him about roles and responsibilities and have got some info.

Does anyone have a copy of the SS1 job role so I can deduce myself whats what and whats not?

Any links to qualifications or information on professional qualifications you would have got within this role, my old man cant remember half of them and can find nothing in work. Things maybe like COSHH, H&S stuff etc.

COSHH isn't LUL.

Did he get any official NVQ's? L12, enable individual learning through coaching, NVQL2 Rail Transport Operations or L3 Rail Operations Supervisory?

I can get a copy of the job booklets for you at some point on my MR, I'm back in for 6 dead lates starting tomorrow.

If he was in the OPS room he was a SCRA (station control room assistant), so he had a licence for that. Useful as you can take that experience into any control room based job.

Did he get track competent? If he's looking for elsewhere in the railway that's generally useful imo.

Get him to write up a few incidents, any stuff he's dealt with. Useful for remembering stuff when answering competence based questions in interviews..

I would hope LUL have some kind of COSHH stuff!!

I'm sure we do, but haven't heard of a qualification covering COSHH covering us - (although I will admit misreading in thinking the OP was talking about COSS)!

London Underground's station staff, in particular station supervisors are very highly trained and competent in a multitude of skills from dealing with problems on the infrastructure to providing world class station operations. All of them possess a wealth of knowledge and make the Tocs look like they're running a cowboy operation. I suspect the Tocs would secretly love to have someone with a background in running one of the world's best railway operations.
