I’m not sure if this would have been discussed anywhere else.
Are there any TOCs (train operating companies) in the south of England that still use car parking machines or have all car parking machines been replaced by parking cameras and tickets machines to buy parking tickets?

WMT stations use ANPR but still have machines at which you can pay for parking rather than it just being at the TVM.

Thanks @Bletchleyite for the info.

It’s interesting that that WMT have kept the machines. I wonder if LNWR, SWR, SN, SE, GWR, c2c and Chiltern could still have any carpark machines?

SWR have ANPR but you can buy car park tickets from the tvm's. All you have to do it put in your reg number and it will match up with the ANPR system. So you don't have to put ticket in car.

Chiltern also use ANPR and no longer have dedicated car park machines, but you can pay for parking at their TVMs and Ticket Offices where they manage the car park.

Has anyone seen any SWR stations that still have the Almex/Metric Autoslot AS88/AS89 car park machines? These are the old fashioned red machines that are the same exact make and model as the old PERTIS (Permit To Travel) machines. They used to be at almost every SWR station car park but i have noticed most have been removed in the past couple of years. I am wondering if there are a few remaining ones left at some stations?

I haven’t but it would be very interesting if someone does come back with finding one on the SWR network!

... which is not stated on their website .....
Also need to know / find out if Chiltern manage the car park.

Parking payments

For regular commuters, payments for parking season tickets are handled securely through APCOA. If you only need to park for a day or a week, simply use RingGo to pay for your ticket in moments.

The only stations Chiltern manage but a third party is responsible for the car park are Dorridge and Solihull.

Parking at Dorridge is free and Solihull transferred to Transport for West Midlands in July 2024.

This needs to be well publicised with easy to understand information and instructions at all stations which use ANPR. There are many older people who are very reluctant to use any car park which uses any system of ANPR or payment by RingGo etc. They avoid these car parks in town centres and tourist attractions and shouldn’t be put off travelling by train because of this.
