Star Trek returning to TV?

A friend has told me that there's rumors that Star Trek will be returning to TV. It has been 10 years since Star Trek ended and CBS now thinks a series is needed since the (badly done) JJ Trek movies are considered unlikely to be successful after the next film by Simon Pegg.

This appears just as a rumor, nothing official that I can find.
Currently there's a campaign to get Star Trek: Enterprise season 5 made. I would really like that. And some articles suggest this is being looked at.
Also Star Trek: Renegades has made a pilot film to show CBS (who own Star Trek). This features Tuvok and Chekov.
Fanfilms Star Trek: Continues, Horizon, Intrepid, Axanar are also being made but these are not official as CBS aren't involved.

Does anyone have more info on this rumor?

I've read the rumour somewhere but can't see any of the existing trek series' being resurected, surely the actors are getting way too old for any part other than ageing starfleet admirals?

I'd probably go for another series based on the original 5 year mission but without Enterprise, Kirk, Spock etc

I would like to see some new quality Sci-Fi in space type of show, but I am not sure if it should be a Star Trek clone. Many drama series have been allowed to continue for too long, and then become a bit stale and / or repetitive.

Much as I enjoyed Star Trek, I found that Gene Roddenberry's "Andromeda" (currently being repeated on Pick TV) was a refreshing change from Star Trek - still in space, but new faces, new ideas.

I love Star Trek and because of that, part of me would welcome any new series (provided it keeps to the spirit of and is consistent with the timeline of the existing series).

But the only snag for me is, there are already over 700 existing episodes and I have no idea when I'm going to find time to watch all the ones that I haven't yet seen, without even beginning to think about a new series!

Any new series will probably be set say 40-50 years after the setting for DS9 and Voyager, to make it plausible for a few existing characters to return.

It's about time for another series, I think. I don't really mind which way they go (post Enterprise / pre TOS, or post Voyager). Near future and far future both have their own pros and cons, and both can work well.

Michael Dorn could probably pull off a good "Captain Worf" at his current age, which I believe was a concept that has been floating around between Dorn, Paramount, and others. Colm Meaney could probably pull off a good Chief Engineer O'Brien. Jonathan Frakes also isn't too old for the Captain's chair. Sir Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew could probably do a credible cameo or 2 as Admirals.

A Next-Next-Generation on a far future new Enterprise could probably work quite nicely. TNG and Voyager are both a long time in the real past now, so there's plenty of new audience to be entertained by rolling out the next updated version of the classic series adventure-a-week with some arcs format. Even DS9 is long enough ago that a new iteration could be done in that style.
