What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I am planning a circular trip in October via the London & Birmingham Railway, Bletchley - Bedford, Midland Railway to St Albans City.

I then plan to walk to St Albans Abbey for the Watford service, then head back to Euston.

My planned train arrives SAC at 13:32 with the Watford departure from SAA at 13:52. My walking speed is 4-5 mph. Is that sufficient time to make it, or would I be better off hopping in a black cab to transfer between the two stations?

In peace

Adam

The 'obvious' route to St Albans Abbey station from the City station goes down and up and down hill and is effectively two sides of a triangle. You would be pushing it to try and cover in 20 mins. There is a slightly shorter and less 'up and down' walk which takes you past the old London Road station linked to by CarltonA.
Come out of St A City station via the platform 4 exit (you will have come off the train from Bedford on platform 1 or 3, so use the footbridge.)
Bear left into the carpark and Ridgmont Road and carry along the latter until you come to a line of bollards. (St A South Sigbox will be on your left at this point*.)
Turn through the bollards and carry on down Ridgmont Road.
Bear left at the end into Grosvenor Road and walk down it - at the end by a roundabout, cross straight over London Road - the old station is now on your left. Bear right into Orient Close and follow through to the resumption of the "Alban Way" (the old Hatfield/St Albans railway trackbed.
Pass under a former railway bridge taking Cottonmill Lane overhead and cross the railway line in front of you at the foot crossing.
Bear right into Griffiths Way, with a Sainsbury's on your right, walk to the end of that road and bear right at the roundabout (St Stephen's Hill) and the station is a short distance further on, on your right.

* If you do this trip on either Sunday 12th or Sunday 26th of October, and are prepared to catch a later train from the Abbey station, the box will be open from around 2pm - although if you get there before 2pm and ask for me, we can give you a tour round and a short break before your walk.

Don't forget to say "Hi" to the hologram on the gateline at St Albans (City).

As there are no escallators, this one seems to be a distant cousin of the others, warning about using the correct ticket types.

She morphs into different job roles, which seems a bit naughty!

And definitely visit the signal box. It's well worth it.

There is also the 724 bus which links the two stations. It is only hourly though and although it says it only takes 6 minutes it can take twice as long if it gets bogged down on St.Peters Street. Probably only worth bearing in mind if there is torrential rain. St.Albans did have the UKs most expensive cab fares a few years back - am not sure if it still holds that distinction.

Does it?? I never knew! Damnit, I'm being ripped off every time I use one!
