G'day

Can you use two advance tickets on the same train to reach your final destination?

eg :
Euston-Glasgow £47.50

Euston-Preston £18.00
Preston-Glasgow £9.00

The train in question is the 13:30 Euston to Glasgow, which stops at Preston.

Cheers

Yes, but unless you are lucky enough to get the same seat reserved for both tickets you will have to change seats at Preston

Yes although the train must call at the split point - in this case Preston.

If your seat is available after Preston you may remain in it (or any other available, Virgin tend to be lax about it!). If you're buying at a station you may be able to request the same seat

edit: in this case the train does call at Preston so you're fine (that'll teach me to not read the whole post!)

Why not? Just like normal split tickets. You have the added benefit of not being able to miss your connection. :D

Can you get split AP fares if the train doesn't call at the split point?

As far as I am aware yes you can as long as the train calls at the split point (which it obviously does as advances are point to point tickets). Worth noting though that there is a good chance that you will end up with a seat reservation in different seats when you split. The way to avoid this would be book at a booking office where they can pick the pick the same seat for the two different tickets.

Thanks for that, I forgot about having to possibly move seats.

You guy's are quick with answers, considering it's pretty late on a friday up there.

Fosters...Yuk, no one drinks that stuff here, lolly water.

Carlton Draught or Victoria Bitter (Tesco sells it in the green can) are the beers of choice in Melbourne.

For me it's a nice botlle or two of Sav Blanc on the weekends.

Yes I was hoping you would say that. :D

I never touch that thing either. A good old pint of local ale/bitter is the order of the day.

Brodie's Prime - one of the best ones i found, deep in the rural lakes.

I agree, when in the UK, I always try the real ale's.

Last time I was over in FEB, they had Piddle as a guest beer at Pembroke Dock Station. (Just to get back on the UK rail topic)

There is a 50 min layover for the DMU's at Pembroke Dock, so I thought a pint would be in order, missed 2 trains on a 2hr frequency :P

I wouldn't worry too much about moving seats. In all the years that I have travelled on Advance tickets and NOT sat in the reserved seat, it has never been mentioned. All they worry about is that you are on the right train.
If the seats you occupy to the split point have reservations beyond that point, you might have to move then. The solution is to to occupy two unreserved seats at the start point; if you are boarding the train at Euston you shouldn't have a problem with that - providing you don't turn up at the last minute !
