has anyone here actually applied to Southern for a conductors position?

I seem to be help waiting for ages (18 months plus) so far. I know that i have passed the application stage as I was emailed but I am still waiting for assesment centre.
Bearing in mind that since I applied the same job has been advertised about 3 times...
And on top of that I never get a reply when I email Southern recruitment??

Does anyone know if you have to already be working for Southern to apply? Or is recruitment open to external applicants?

Those are from the Southern Website so no. I think they operate a distance policy, unless you live 1hr from the depot you won't be considered.

The closing date is not for another few days so they cannot go through the shortlisting procedures until everyone has had an opportunity to apply.

Once the closing date is passed then you should expect a reply, although a growing number of TOC's do not communicate with unsuccessful applicants.

Fair enough :) (although so far Southern haven't replied to my previous applications before the conductor ones), Saying that I think only South Eastern and Heathrow Express have directly told me that i've been unsuccessful, virgin trains tell you on their website as for the others I don't know

They do operate a distance policy which has varied in the last 18 months from being 30 mins when I asked the first time, to 1 hour the second time I asked. it now stands at 45 mins when I last phoned them!!
