May be visiting London in june, i have a question is it possible to get a ride on a class 442 using a travelcard?

i know most of the time they are used on the gatwick express services so i know it wont be possible but someone has mentioned that they do sometimes work bright on trains.

Between London Victoria and East Croydon you should be able to get one then, especially if it is a Saturday.

When Gatwick expresses are extended to Brighton in the Peaks for people travelling Brighton/Stations south of Gatwick to London they count as normal Southern trains where usual tickets are valid. So a travelcard from Brighton would be valid.

Travel card only valid in Greater London though.

For £12 you can get a southern Day Save ticket (suggest you go to the southern railway website). Has to be booked more than a week in advance though. This is valid on the entire Southern network with some peak time exceptions. Area Southampton - Hastings(-sh) North to London an Milton Keynes. Cannot recall, but I doubt, if it includes Gatwick Express (i.e the non-stop Victora-Gatwick Shuttle) but the 442s do get on other services (mainly/allways Victoria-Brighton that stop as east Croydon). One day travelcard is £8 but does let you do the rest of London. Take your pick.

Off-peak 442s tend to work VIC-BTN fasts, calling at the usual (vic), Clapham Jnc, East Croydon and Brighton, so yeah, you should be able to get a ride on one.

I don't know how useful / relevant it is to you, but there's also a 442 service from London Bridge. I don't know what the frequency or times for it are, but I think it goes to Eastbourne and has absolutely nothing to do with the Gat-Ex, so presumably a regular Southern ticket will be accepted on the route.

Weekdays from Victoria, 442's are on the fast Brighton services, except for the 1006, 1206, 1236, 1436, 1506, 1636, 1706, 1836, 1906, 1936 and, 2206. The pattern changes in the evening so there will be no 1736 or 1806. Last 442 is the 2306.

For £12.50, an All Network Downlander offers travel across the entire Southern network and travel on buses in the Brighton/Eastbourne area. It is valid after 10am, has no evening peak restrictions and only needs to be booked 2 days in advance.
