Southern All Network Downlander

Hello,

Next weekend (Saturday 8th September) I'm planning to make use of the All Network Downlander ticket. I've never really used the Southern network apart from the odd day trip to Brighton/Hastings.

Has anyone got any suggestions of places I should visit, best places for spotting/pictures etc?

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

I was the person who asked about the daysave destinations and having completed it today. I would recommend doing the Arun and Mole Valleys (thats Ford up to Horsham and Horsham to Leatherhead. Past Leatherhead (the london side, it just gets dull. I'll be putting up a trip report there tomorrow so you may get some ideas from that...

Hi there,
There's a lot of variety to choose from and your possible routes will be dependant on where you start from.

Assuming you're starting in London, this can be from Victoria or London Bridge. From Victoria you can stop at Clapham Junction where it's pretty busy. Just before East Croydon, from either London terminus, there is Selhurst depot to see as you go past.

There are a number of ways to get to the coast. You can go down the Brighton main line to Gatwick and then either to Brighton directly or via the Arun vallley to Littlehampton/Bognor Regis.
With a Downlander ticket that's valid on some buses, there is another option of using the service to Uckfield, then the bus to Lewes and then back onto the trains to Eastbourne, Seaford or Brighton.
I'd recommend this as an interesting trip on the diesel class 171's as a complement to the many Electrostars you'll be on and it's a pretty senic route anyway.

I'd recommend the 12/12A bus from Brighton - Eastbourne, it's a nice ride through the downs and if you don't feel like doing the whole journey, it stops just out Seaford station.
