Travelling from Swaythling to Barnstaple on Easter Sunday, returning the next weekend but have been firmly waylayed by engineering works. Ticket options are (both 16-25 railcard):
- Off peak return route WESTBRY SALISBRY, £43.75
- Off peak return route HONITON SALISBRY, £47.35
On the way out there are engineering works closing the lines between Southampton/Winchester, Yeovil/Exeter, and Westbury/Taunton. On the way back the lines through Southampton Central are closed.
Am I correct that the £43.75 ticket, together with a £3.60 (I think) excess on the way back, will allow me to go via Bristol (quite possibly walking to Southampton Central and starting from there) on the way out, and via Honiton on the way back (quite possibly walking back from Eastleigh as GWR services are diverted via Chandler's Ford)?
On top of this I noticed on RTT GWR run buses from Barnstaple to Lynmouth - is it possible to get a combined ticket for the train and bus on this route or are they only shown to allow journey planners to give the option?
