If you've ever watched the episode of Some mothers do ave em, where they go on their second honeymoon (Have a break take a husband), you'll recall the sequence at the start where Frank nearly misses the train! In the process, he ends up travelling with the guard.

Anyway, the questions are, which station was the train sequence filmed at, and which station was the scene where they left the station (you can see the station building in the background) filmed at?

I have no idea. Unless you can find it on YouTube or somewhere like that it's going to be hard to tell.

As a lot of the outside filming for Some Mothers was done in and around Bedford, so it might be reasonable to assume that it is one or other of the Bedford stations. However, given how old these programmes are, it's more than likely to have been the old Bedford Midland station that was demolished to make way for the new station when Bedford was remodelled.

But some stills or film would help.

It takes your breath away in this cotton wool age. It is like punishment by death these days to have a door on the catch let alone open & then the stupid thing has to be locked out of use until inspected. Somebody hanging on the side with a train moving would probably mean the train would be out of service for a week :roll:. Crazy times.

The rear unit number, if anyone is interested, is 5679. Managed to read it after pressing hold a couple of times.

It also looks like one of the middle units in the trains was a BR design "flat fronter" from the 57xx sequence, based on the brief glimpses looking forward along the train, which seemed in total to be formed of four 2 car units.

From playing it through a couple of times, I think they may have stitched together 2 or 3 takes into the platform sequence as it looks too long to have been filmed as one sequence, even allowing for the very long platforms at that location. Anyone else think this?

Well that's not Bedford for a start!

I made the suggestion before the link was posted, so I didn't see what manner of stock was being used nor any clues as to the location. However, it remains correct that a lot of the outside filming for Some Mothers was indeed done in Bedford.

OL Leigh is quite right, the vast majority of the SMDHT series were filmed in and about Bedford for the simple fact that Michael Crawford lived in one of the villages just outside the town.

The old Bedford St Johns station (with the Bletchley - Bedford Cravens DMUs) featured pominently in several episodes.

Many of the street scenes were filmed in and around the terraced houses in the St Johns area of the town.

I think you will find that the "first" unit which appeared in the side shots was a 4-Sub.

I agree, the "roundedness" was quite distinctive.

There was also a 4-EPB in the background when the train Crawford was hanging on to pulled out of the station.

I wonder whether they used more than one unit during the filming as Frank is clearly shown hanging out of the back of a SR designed EPB, yet at the start Betty appears to be in an SUB carriage on account of the net luggage rack behind her. (I think the EPB's all had metal racks).

Can't remember the plot, but I seem to recollect one episode where Frank has arrived at St Pancras and can't find his ticket so he ends up hiding in a mail sack to try and get through the barriers undetected.

Needless to say, he ends up being loaded onto a "Peak" hauled parcels train to some distant place

Totally stupid.
I had this happen at Oxford on a charter with MK1 CS.
The train was right a way from the platform, when 3 idiots ran through the barrier and tried to board the accelerating train.
Luckily the guard saw what was happening and stopped the train with the jigger.
Totally crimminal conduct which could have killed the 3 idiots in the process.

You are close! It is the office block called "The Point" next to Stonebridge Park station.
