Yesterday, I took the plunge and upgraded my boxed copy of Railworks 2 to Train Simulator 2012.

As you can probably tell from the screenshots attached in this message, it hasn't gone very well.

Put it simply, the game is unplayable. Whenever I try to load a route, I get a boxed message identifying a whole string of errors, and I cannot proceed any further. There is no landscape, nor is there any scenery.

It's the same when I go into the editor. Oddly enough, the trains appear in perfect detail, but there is no landscape.

My PC took RW2 quite well. I have attached screenshots, showing my graphics settings, and what happens when I try to load a route.

Should I try re-installing the game, or have I missed something blindingly obvious?

As always, any help would be very much appreciated.

On the opening splash screen (the one from which you click "start"), there is a box near the top which can be ticked to use TSX mode. Not sure whether it was on or off as default.

I remember seeing similar screenshots elsewhere, will have a look for them.

You have probably posted them before, but what are your exact specs?

My processor is AMD Athlon Dual Core M300, with 2.00 Ghz.

I have Direct X 11, AMD M880G and ATI Mobility Radeon 4200.

When I bought RW2, I went on the basis of the System Requirements Lab (to which you recommended funnily enough :) ) which said that my computer was capable of running the game.

Problem here is, that is a laptop isn't it and it's onboard graphics? This was only mid-range even on release a couple of years ago. Even since RS, it was always made clear that these were not supported but may work.

Well, it's all anyone really had to go on, but the actual requirements lab was for RS, not RW. :D The specs were slightly higher for RW, but never actually included on that site (or anywhere for that matter ).

I am pretty certain that you won't be able to run in TSX mode with that system, but you should be able to at least run legacy mode, even if it has to be lower settings.

As it seems to be throwing up consist errors, it may well be that the download from Steam became corrupt in some way, so the first thing I would do is verify the game cache as outlined in the link below but make sure you are out of RW completely before doing so (not the "Clear Cache" button, but the part below that which is done via Steam). It does take a little while to verify your files and then download/fix any errors. Once this is done, open the RW splash screen and then do the "clear cache" part explained at the top of that linked page.

Thanks mate, I'm working on the cache thing now. :)
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
The system now says '9 files failed to valuate and now will be reaquired.'

Good or bad thing?

Clearly a bad thing, still not working. I give up.

Not sure on the RAM you have but your laptop looks of a similar spec to mine and I can run it well enough (some routes run better than others) and my laptop is over 4 years old now

Had a couple of errors which I need to investigate further but on the whole it is fine.

The .exe file disappeared the other week but verifying the game cache sorted that out.

Did you manage to clear the blueprint cache as doing that has sorted issues for me in the past?

Unless your laptop supports Pixel Shader 3, you won;t be able to run in the TSX mode - if you do try it and you don't have PS3, it now gives you a useful error message telling you so, so you'd know soon enough anyway.

Feel free to PM me if you need to :)

First off, thank you to everyone who has responded. :)

I verified the integrity of the cache and then cleared the blueprint cache, but still no change. Annoying!

Ah, I see what you mean, but that was only for people with the boxed copy of the new game, TRS2012.
