SNCF emu set numbers

Can anyone help with SNCF multiple unit set numbers?

See beteeen Orleans and Brive a few days ago were emu/dmu sets 568, 689, 682 and 544. However can't find any reference to these unit numbers.

Please bear in mind that I may have got one wrong but not all!

Any help would be appreciated.

Were these actual units or push pull sets with locomotives? Do you have any pictures? I could look it up tonight.

They were definaietly units - not push-pull sets.

If these were modern ones with huge windows higher at the ends than in the middles they would have been class B81500 AGCs.

544 = B81543 / B81544

568 = B81567 / B81568

682 = B81681 / B81682

689 = B81689 / B81690

All those four are 3 car sets, the centre car is numbered based on the odd numbered driving car with an extra 1 in, thus 811543 etc etc.

I'm hoping I've got that completely right because deducing actual SNCF unit numbering from the fleet numbers is a right nightmare!

I'm not so confident of the above.

The set numbering of the new generation of SNCF units can be somewhat random. Different regions have been known to use different set numbering schemes, such that some clash with other regions.

I'm not certain that all units seen on the route stated would be AGC family. There are some electric only units (eg Z21500) running in that area.

No, the Z21500 are more like an electric version of the X-TER DMUs ie the 'first generation second generation' body style, if you can work that one out!
