Skyfall London Underground scenes

I was watching Skyfall last night on the telly, when I got to wondering about the London Underground scenes.

The LU scenes show a deep tube train (Northern line stock?) at Temple - why do they do that?

I was assuming they film at a real London Underground station? And if this is the case, it must cost them a fortune to replace all the stickers with 'Temple'? Just seems unnecessary as the actual location regarding the film is irrelevant - it could be any central London tube station.

Or did they mock up their own tube station, or indeed use some form of post production trickery to change all the signs?

The cost of that would fit inside a rounding error on Daniel Craig's salary...

A lot of filming is done at Aldwych, which closed in the 1990s. Also on the Charing Cross platforms of the Jubilee, which are similarly inaccessible to the public.

That's also well within the realm of possibility, it's surprising just how convincing a facade on a soundstage can be.

I guess, but still makes me wonder why they bother? I could understand if the station location was key to the plot, but I can't see it in this film.

I don't think it's Aldwych - looks far too modern. All white and shiny like the updated Oxford Circus.

The platform scenes are based at Charing Cross Jubilee, plus some other publicly inaccessible areas of the station, with a train being suitably dressed up as a District line train, plus the station. This is the only 'modern' filming location available for film crews requiring access to trains and track - Aldwych is used for more period shots.

The production company specified - and therefore paid for - the required line and station etc., and with the current state of TfL's finances it's no surprise that those requests were met (and have been met since for other production companies, most recently an episode of Silent Witness).

The crash scenes were mocked up with replica Tube cars on a sound stage. There's more information in this video:
