"Simplifying" the ECML fares exposes illegal rises

What authority do you have it on that Simplification will not be a excuse for stealth fare rises? I thought really only ATOC could be commenting on that and even then they are hardly going to admit to it. At present the Saver fares are currently "protected" but these will become a number of things depending on each route from the Anytime to Off Peak so what will now be protected, will it be the Off Peak fare or the Super Off Peak? Already we are worse off with these changes with the SOR now only valid on the outward travel date so they are certainly restricting us with these changes!

As far as joe public is concerned, there is currently a SOR, a BSR and a SVR, on some routes, now, when they simplify, there will be a SOR* (Anytime), a SVR* (Off-Peak) and a SSR* (Super Off-Peak) at roughly the same prices, there is nothing stealth like there.

The fares changes in September and the simplification process are seperate issues, even if some people refuse to see it that way.

If you see a stealth rise there then who am I to argue with you, but as far as I see it, it is only a stealth rise if the lower fare is withdrawn, or massively increased.

If you look at the topic involving YP fares and simplification you will see the Stealth fare rises I believed would come and thus researched via Evolvi and found, thanks to yorkie's research many more were found and thus now any Saver which previously was valid on any train and thus will now become an "Anytime" has caused a fare increase before 1000am.

Ah yes, I hadn't considered that, me not being young enough for one of those! But even so, although the effect of a fares increase has occured as a result of the 'Simplification', the fare itself hasn't actually risen, mearly the discount applied to those fares.

In anycase, it would only affect those where no SOR/BVR fares currently exist.

Far too complex to print. And yes, too complex to understand. Some tickets even have 2 codes (one 'main' code which then says 'for journeys to/from xyz bla see code XX ):roll:

Which proves the point that the fares 'simplification' isn't that really. If ATOC really wants to simplify things, then it needs to sort out all the complex rules rather than just rebranding all the names of the tickets.

I don't see way they couldn't put code "8A" on the saver/offpeak tickets, or something similar to indicate that the fare is valid all day.

Of course, that could lead to more people buying the correct ticket and saving money, so obviously that's a bad thing :roll:
