With the 350/2's coming through thick and fast and the 378's and 172's due to start rolling off production lines soon has there been a final decision made yet on where the old Silverlink stock is going to end up. I assume it will all need a refurb anway - have contracts been let for this work yet? The 150's trundling around in the west Country carring Silverlink colours are they just on temp loan to FGW or will they be transfering permanently? I know that there will be a lot of 150's coming from LM when the get their 172's anbody know if the cascade plan has been sorted yet? I hope they at least get a lick of paint Silverlink had a very putrid livery and Centals 150's do not look so great now compared to the new LM colours.

If it was me, I'd send some to EMT! Use them on Lincolnshire, Robin Hood Line, Leicster-Lincoln & Skeggy services (all along with 153s), to realease some 156s to use on Liverpool-Norwich and diagram all 158s to Liverpool-Norwich!
This wont happen for probably a variety of reasons

On the DfT website somewhere is a very vague list which says that FGW will be getting a lot of LM's 150s. I was thinking the other day, it was advertised that the 172s are for the Snow Hill lines - does this mean that LM will be keeping some 150s for Bedford-Bletchley and the Birmingham - Rugeley service; that 153s (maybe paired) will be used on these routes; or that 172s will be used on all of the shorter distance diesel operations.

The only 150 which works away from Snow Hill lines at current is, IIRC, the second Bletchley-Bedford diagram. I'd imagine getting another 153 to cover this shouldn't be too difficult. I presume the 172s will release the 153 which runs around the Snow Hill lines all day for starters.

2x321/4 have gone to Donny at present, presumed for Ilford when outshopped.

On a slightly different note, does anyone know how LM are introducing the 350/2s? Although a few more have arrived since December 14th, the same numbers are being used day-to-day. I understand that this is as a result of diagramming...does this mean that we won't see an increase in numbers used until they've all arrived and all the 321s leave?

Aren't some of the 321s heading to FCC to strengthen Great Northern services?

What about the remainder ? NXEA would be the obvious home.

thanks! I am wondering if passenger growth does carry on (predicitons are for 30% over the next 10 years) whether any units will be getting scrapped. There is no way new builds will ever keep pace with passenger growth and so to actually replace vehicles on a like for like basis will never provide the vast increases in capacity that are required.

Have you noticed how temporary solutions on the railway seem to last an eternity (Pacers, Kings Cross's concourse etc). It seems that temporary on the railways is at least 30 years!!

I don't think anything will ever be withdrawn at this rate - you're right, they'll just get added to increasingly longer trains and yet more new services.

The only time things will get withdrawn is when they can no longer safely operate. Safety first and all that; it must surely mean that the pacers will be scrapped soon. Also, stock like 313s where the bodyshells are rusting must be quite high on the list.

The fact that nothing seems to get replaced is - IMHO - down to a lack of foresight by the DaFT and so on.

Being honest, the 313 - 315 series will be going first. The 313's are likely to go with the Thameslink cascade, 314's with the 380's and 315's with the new anglia order

There was at least 1x150 on the Rugeley service today although you're right - they're normally 170s and/or 153s (combined). I'd assume that when the 172s come in they may be used on cases like today where the stock isn't available.

The Cl315's will be around for a while yet, and the order for new StanEx stock certainly won't affect them.

I very much doubt the 313s will go - they're mainstays of the GN Inner Suburban services - which need dual voltage for Drayton Pk - Moorgate - the only thing which could replace those is new build and nothing has been touted for that - or the Moorgate - FP would pass to London Overground in some fashion.

It'll have been a stand in then - as far as I know all London Midland diesel services out of New Street are booked 170/153 in various combinations to keep the two fleets seperate.

The exception to the rule is that some Sunday Hereford services are booked for 150s.
