Shortest flight I've ever had!

And yet apparently the Orkney council is seriously considering proposals to do just that.

A bridge/causeway would last a hundred years - how much does it cost to run 2 air round trips a day and two ferry sailings in each direction a week over a century? (Fixed link maintenance is likely to be fairly negligible compared to that cost).

AIUI one 10 seater plane does all the Orkney inter island flights for the day, so I can't imagine the additional 7 minutes it takes twice a day adds much marginal cost.

The ferry runs a few times a day for passengers only (brilliantly, some sailings are by request only!) and weekly for vehicles.

I have done the Westray-Papa Westray flight in both directions in one of Loganair's Islanders. Inbound, 6 minutes (had to go around twice due to flocks of geese flying over what would have been finals) and outbound about 90 seconds.

You can see the windsock on Westray from Papa Westray on a clear day (and presumably vice versa).

I also flew from Cherskiy Airport in Siberia to an island a few miles away in a Mil Mi-8 helicopter once which only took a few minutes - but that's another story.

Another short flight I made was from Plymouth to Cardiff, (I was getting an onward connection to Dublin, the flight was continuing on to Newcastle). Took off with six of us on board (an Air Southwest ATR-42). I was sat in the last row. Got to Cardiff and taxied to a halt. I got up, got my bag and went to the back of the plane. Stewardess came up to me and asked what I was doing. I told her I was waiting to get off. She looked a bit surprised and said that they had not been told by the despatcher at Plymouth that there was a Pax for Cardiff. I showed her my ticket and Boarding Pass. She took my Boarding Pass and headed down to the cockpit. She came back, offering profuse apologies, and saying that the Captain was onto their ground handling crew to come and get me, (we were on a remote stand, the flight was not due to head to Newcastle for 45 minutes, the Newcastle passengers were remaining on board). 15 minutes later up came a car, up came a dispatcher, again offering profuse apologies, and away I was whisked to an empty arrivals hall. I had a 5 hour wait for the onward connection, which meant that I was in departures when the Newcastle flight landed back in Cardiff on its way back to Plymouth. I could have stayed on for the round flight!

I read about a Cessna Citation that flew from Birmingham to Coventry earlier in August. Must have been a very short flight.

Not in passenger service, so doesn't count, but every single VC-10 built had to be "hopped" as light as possible from Brooklands ( very short runway ) to Wisley didn't they?

Similarly, wasn't there a 707 once that landed at Northolt instead of Heathrow by accident and they had to strip everything out of it except the flight deck crew seats in order to get it out of Northolt ( short runway ) for a short hop to Heathrow?
