Short faring issue

Hi all,

I was involved in a short-fare incident, which was entirely my fault, and I take full responsibility. I regret my actions deeply — I should not have been dishonest, and I feel very foolish about the situation. This is not something I have ever done before, and it is not something I will ever do again.

I’m seeking some advice on what to expect next. I paid the fine on the spot, was issued a receipt, and offered my sincere apologies. Is it likely that this will resolve the matter, or is there a possibility of further action or prosecution?

I am very concerned about the potential consequences, particularly the risk of a criminal record and how that could affect my employment. Any guidance or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies for not being clearer and thank you for the advice.

The train company was GWR and I was going from Bristol to Bath. I didn't buy a ticket (as I was rushing) and when I arrived at the station I told them I had come from the closest possible station (Temple Meads). This was a lie on my part as I'd come from another stop (Filton).

They said because I had no proof of the this that they would have to issue the fine which was fair enough. I then paid the fine immediately and they staff were really helpful. The staff claimed this wouldn't to any further. However, I'm really concerned they're going to follow this up and attempt to prosecute me for the avoiding the fare.

If you were issued a Penalty Fare and it has been paid in full, that is usually the end of the matter.
