Is there somewhere reliable for live updates/service information that is kept up to date that I'm missing?

I just boarded a tram at Sheffield station and the conductor immediately told everyone that there was no service between Gleadless and Halfway today due to a sinkhole appearing.

However, I cannot find any information online apart from a small message on X (@sy_supertram) and all the display boards still show the timetable information even at stations that currently have no service. Walking past Donestsk way and people were waiting for trams that weren't coming

I was expecting something on https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-GB/LandingPage/Disruptions but there's nothing there currently 4 hours after it was posted about on X

It seems odd that in the modern day, the electronic boards at stations only show the timetabled information and not live status (at least that is how it seems) and that none of the status information makes it onto google maps

Are there other ways people obtain information or is X and onboard information the only ways? The conductors are always great and very helpful but that's no use to someone waiting at a station for a tram that never arrives

The alert is on this page, which is unfortunately a completely different page to the one you've linked despite it living on the same domain.

Regarding the sinkhole, I've found this photo on facebook, no idea if it's real.

Seems they've been a bit more proactive today after having nothing yesterday. I can see the notes do say it's only updated monday to Friday 8-5

Looks like they've also put on a replacement bus service today. Pics seem to suggest it's an old well under the track possibly from an old coal mine, the line was originally was built around 1995

You're right; currently there's no live tracking of tram positions or timings, and the times shown at the stops are only what's timetabled. This is why there's no live tram information on Google Maps or CityMapper, despite this now being common for buses and pretty much every other form of public transport.

I believe this is part of SYMCA's agreement with Hitachi to modernise the network, announced last year. There's a load of information on the tender here: Supertram Automatic Vehicle Location and Customer Information System Upgrade. The decision to go with Hitachi was made in May 2025, and since it says it's part of the 2022-27 funding package I'm hoping we should be seeing it fairly soon!
